The Volkswagen Type 2 (T3) is the third generation of the Volkswagen Transporter. It was larger, heavier and more angular than its predecessor, the T2, but retained the same design – with a rear engine and a cab over the front axle.
Although production in Europe ended in 1992, the T3 continued in production in South Africa until 2002. In East Germany and the Eastern Bloc, the T3 was often used by the police, fire departments and even the secret services.
