The Arado Ar 199 was a design for flight training of complete seaplane crews. The machine resembled the Ar 196, but was based on the Ar 79 and Ar 96, but was all-metal and capable of catapults. The Ar 199 possessed two all-metal floats that ended in a flat stage. 31 Arado 199s were built, 5 prototypes and 26 production machines. Originally, 65 machines were required according to the RLM schedule No.10 of 1 January 1939. The pre-series consisted of 26 machines (WNr.001-026), the last 4 were built in France. They were mainly used in rescue operations.
