Built by CKD Praha between 1977 and 1986, these locomotives were developed as a lighter, more versatile version of the earlier industrial T 448.0, featuring improved top speed, lower axle loads, and suitable mainline signalling equipment for regular service.\nWith a Bo'Bo' wheel arrangement, a power output of 883 kW (about 1,180 hp), and a top speed of 90 km\/h, the T 466.2\/742 class was well suited to medium-weight freight haulage, yard duties, and occasional passenger workings across the standard gauge network. A total of nearly 450 locomotives were produced in multiple series, making the T 466.2 one of the most numerous and familiar diesel types on Czech and Slovak rails.
