A total of 265 locomotives were produced in the type series originally derived from the SP45, but modified with electric train heating to become the universal SU45 suitable for both passenger and freight duties.\nFeaturing a Co'Co' wheel arrangement, the SU45 is powered by a V12 turbocharged diesel engine producing around 1 750 hp and driving an electric transmission. With a top speed of 120 km\/h, it was capable of hauling heavy trains on Poland’s non-electrified main lines, and its flexible performance made it a backbone of diesel traction in the late 20th century.\nThe SU45 earned a reputation for rugged reliability and versatility across passenger expresses, regional services and freight work.
