Constructed by Adtranz between 1996 and 1999, a total of 145 locomotives were produced to replace the ageing Class 103 fleet and serve as the new flagship for InterCity and EuroCity trains on Germany’s electrified main lines. These locomotives feature a sleek, aerodynamic Bo'Bo' design and advanced traction electronics.\nPowered from 15 kV AC overhead lines, the Class 101 delivers 6,400 kW of power and is certified for a design speed of 220 km\/h, although in regular service many operate at 200 km\/h due to rolling stock and route limitations.
