Developed in the late 1970s and entering service from 1982, the D.145 was designed to bring reliable diesel traction to both mainline freight duties and shunting work under Italy’s non-electrified network.\nItalian manufacturers, including Fiat Savigliano, Elettromeccanica Parizzi and Tecnomasio Italiano-Brown-Boveri, constructed the locomotives with a Bo-Bo wheel arrangement and a sturdy four-stroke diesel engine driving electrical transmission. The D.145 delivers around 825 kW of power and a maximum speed of 100 km\/h, providing solid performance for mixed freight and transfer work in yards and regional services.
