Sixty-five locomotives were delivered in total, numbered 601–665, and constructed in England by English Electric at the Dick, Kerr \u0026amp; Co. and Vulcan Foundry works. They were closely related to the British Class 11 shunter in design and performance, but adapted for Dutch requirements.\nPowered by a 400 hp English Electric 6KT diesel engine and featuring a 0-6-0 wheel arrangement, the Class 600 offered strong low-speed tractive effort with a top speed of around 30 km\/h, ideal for yard duties, assembling consists, and short transfers between electrified and non-electrified zones. The class earned affectionate nicknames such as “Hippel” and “Bakkie” from railworkers and enthusiasts.\nIn later years, a portion of the fleet was fitted with remote control equipment and renumbered into the 671–693 series.
