Built between 1989 and 1993 by a consortium including AEG, ABB, Henschel, Krauss, Krupp, and Siemens Mobility, a total of 60 trainsets were delivered. ICE 1 consists of two power cars (Class 401) and up to 14 intermediate cars, giving a spacious and modern multiple-unit formation.
