A total of 265 locomotives were produced by CAF and Macosa under licence from Mitsubishi Heavy Industries to work under 3 kV DC electrification on the Iberian gauge (1 668 mm) network. These locomotives became one of the most numerous and important classes in Spanish electric traction history.\nThe locomotives feature a B'B' wheel arrangement, around 4,185 hp (3,121 kW) of power and a top speed that varies by sub-series from about 80 km\/h up to 200 km\/h, making them suitable for freight, intermodal and passenger trains. Multiple variants (269.0, 269.2, 269.5, 269.7, 269.9 and others) were built to suit different duties and speed requirements on Spanish routes.\nThe Class 269s hauled everything from heavy freight to Estrella expresses, Talgo trains and regional services across Spain’s electrified network.
