Twenty locomotives, numbered CC 14001–CC 14020, were constructed by CGCL-Oerlikon with a Co'Co' wheel arrangement and powerful 2,640 kW output, designed for heavy freight work, particularly on the industrial northeastern network around Lille and Thionville.\nThese locomotives were part of an experimental group alongside the BB 12000, BB 13000, and CC 14100 classes used to evaluate different electrical traction systems under the new high-voltage AC standard. The CC 14000s used three-phase traction motors fed via rotary converters — a technically advanced but complex system that proved less reliable in service, and they were restricted mostly to slow, heavy freight duties with a top speed of around 60 km\/h.\nNicknamed “Fers à repasser” (“flat irons”) because of their distinctive shape, the class was gradually retired between 1978 and 1981 as newer, more reliable electrics took over freight duties.
